The Versatilt Wheelchair Tilting Device In Physical Rehabilitation

The Verstilt wheelchair tilting deviceis very beneficial to paralized patients when in rehabilitation, either in the clinic or at home. When rehabilitating the core muscle groups in spinal cord injuries extreme care must be taken to prevent compression pressure on the spine. This is especially important for Individuals whose injuries are severe enough that there is a loss of use in the lower extremities. The Versatilt wheelchair tilting device is the perfect tool for rehabilitation centers treating spinal cord injuries. It allows the patient to remain seated in their wheelchair in a reclined position thus removing the compression pressure from the spine. The patient can now use exercise equipment, free weights or other devices the therapist prescribes for muscle strength and core training while in their wheelchair, without being transferred.

Whether in a resting position, or working out, a patient will experience remarkable pressure relief on their spine when they are using the Versatilt. Both are entirely enjoyed without difficult and dangerous transfers to and from a wheelchair.

Tilting Wheelchair Devices Beneficial for Wheelchair Bound Rehabilitation Centers

Spinal cord injuries cause myelopathy or damage to white matter or myelinated fiber tracts that carry signals to and from the brain. It also damages gray matter in the central part of the cord, causing segmental losses of interneurons and motorneurons. Spinal cord injury can occur from many causes, including:

• Trauma such as automobile crashes, falls, gunshots, diving accidents, war injuries, etc.
• Tumor such as meningiomas, ependymomas, astrocytomas, and metastatic cancer.
• Ischemia resulting from occlusion of spinal blood vessels, including dissecting aortic aneurysms, emboli, arteriosclerosis.
• Developmental disorders, such as spina bifida, meningomyolcoele, and other.
• Neurodegenerative diseases, such as Friedreich's ataxia, spinocerebellar ataxia, etc.
• Demyelinative diseases, such as Multiple Sclerosis.
• Transverse myelitis, resulting from spinal cord stroke, inflammation, or other causes.
• Vascular malformations, such as arteriovenous malformation (AVM), dural arteriovenous fistula (AVF), spinal hemangioma, cavernous angioma and aneurysm.

Safe Patient Handling of Spinal Cord Injury Patients

Every year, about 11,000 Americans experience a spinal cord injury, which is about 200,000 people living today with spinal cord injury disability in the United States. Half of these result from trauma, such as car and diving accidents. When confined to a wheelchair this safe patient handling device aids in the rehabilitation of wheelchair bound patients.
A diagnosis of spinal cord injury can be devastating. The sudden presence of disability can be frightening, frustrating and confusing to trauma victims, their families and friends, who naturally wonder how this injury will affect their everyday activities, jobs, relationships, dreams and long-term happiness.

The Versatilt as a Home Use Rehabilitation Tool

DVT refers to Deep Vein Thrombosis, a term used to describe blood clots in the arms, and most commonly the legs.

“My name is Randy and I'm 33 years old. I'm married and have 6 wonderful children and I live in chronic pain as a result of DVT.
Since the age of 10 my legs have hurt. I’ve gone to many doctors only to be told that its growing pains or that I was wanting attention. Later my left leg developed a blood clot that cut off the circulation and my leg began to swell. Finally the doctors realized that I have a blood disorder, LydenFactor V (five). I was immediately put on Coumadin and told that if a blood clot travels from my leg to my heart, lungs, or brain, I will have severe problems and could possibly die. I was only 18.
Life is just beginning for me. Since then I have had multiple blood clots in both legs that required surgery. Stents were placed in the IVC Vein (Inferior Venacava Vein) because the clots blocked the blood flow to my heart. My leg pain is due to the blood clots damaging the valves in my veins causing extreme pressure from the blood backup. This pressure causes my legs to develop extremely painful ulcer wounds that don't heal. It takes months, sometimes years, to get fully healed. Elevating my legs above my heart is the only way to relieve the pressure, the pain, and the ulcers. The problem has been that there is no chair or device that had been created to get my legs elevated high enough with comfort…. until now.

The Versatilt has relieved my pain and assisted in the healing process of my Venous Stasous ulcers. It's simple to use and very comfortable. It tilts back up to 65 degrees giving me the maximum elevation that is needed for the pressure to be relieved.

Having the Versatilt has assisted me with pain free living. When I'm in pain I sit, tilt and ride my way to a comfortable position. Within minutes the pressure in my legs is gone and I’m back to playing with my children.

The Versatilt Wheelchair Tilting Device has given back to me what's important, TIME with my family. “

Thank you, Versatilt!!!

Sincerely,

Randy Weber
